This coin was issued under
King Bhartrdaman as Mahakshatrapa
(S. 210-217, 288-295 AD),
Western Kshatrapa
in western India.
Western Kshatrapas, or Western Satraps, were Indo-Scythian
(Saka) rulers
of southern Pakistan,
and
western & central part of India, between 35 to 405 AD.
The power of the Western Kshatrapas started to
decline in the 2nd AD
after the Saka rulers
were
defeated
by the Emperor
Gautamiputra Satakarni
of the Satavahana Dynasty.
After this, the Saka Kingdom
revived
, but was
ultimately destroyed
by Chandragupta II of
the Gupta Empire in 4th century AD.
King Bhartrdaman was a Saka ruler of Western Kshatrapas in northwestern India from 278-295.
He was a
Kshatrapa
in S 200-217 (278-288 AD), and he was a
Mahakshatrapa
in S 210-217 (288-295 AD).
