Se constituye en Madrid el día 17 de mayo de 1888, con el fin de proceder a la construcción y explotación de una línea ferroviaria por la costa, con el fin de facilitar el comercio exterior sobre productos como el café, azúcar y tabaco. Se dio prioridad a las líneas San Juan-Arecibo, de 78 km, Ponce-Guayama de 66 km y Yabucoa-Humacao de 24 km. Estos planes, que se iniciaron durante el período de Administración española, serían finalizados tras adquirir su independencia Puerto Rico. It was established in Madrid on May 17, 1888, in order to proceed with the construction and operation of a railway line along the coast, in order to facilitate foreign trade on products such as coffee, sugar and tobacco. Priority was given to the 78 km San Juan-Arecibo, 66 km Ponce-Guayama and 24 km Yabucoa-Humacao lines. These plans, which began during the period of Spanish Administration, would be finalized after Puerto Rico acquired its independence.
